Q: What is a security bond or holding deposit?
A: A security bond is a pre-authorisation to your credit card that is used as a form of protection whilst you are renting a vehicle.
Q: How does a security bond work?
A: In most cases, we will only accept a signed credit card imprint as a security deposit. We will pre-authorise an amount up to your chosen excess on the credit card. This authorisation is cancelled when the vehicle is returned and the rental finalised. Financial institutions may take up to 7 days to release the authorisation.
Q: Can I use a debit credit card for the security bond?
A: Yes, however you must select to reduce your excess liability with us, and understand the full excess amount will be authorised on the card.
Q: How old do I have to be to rent a vehicle?
A: All renters must be aged 21+ years for standard vehicles, at the commencement of the rental. You must be aged 25+ years for specialty vehicles.
Q: What Driver's License do I need to rent a vehicle?
A: Red Back Car Rentals recognises all current non-provisional and non-probationary Australian drivers licenses and current overseas licenses.
The required driver's license must be in English with photo and produced at the commencement of the rental. Should the license be in another language or have no photo, an International Driving Permit must accompany it.
Q: Is there an additional charge if there will be more than one driver?
A: You can have one additional driver for free (excludes luxury and convertible vehicles), further drivers will incurr a fee. Please refer to the booking section (vehicle specific) All drivers must be present at the rental counter at the time of collection.
Q: Where am I permitted to drive?
A: Our vehicles can only be taken within a 500klm radius which covers: Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Bundaberg, Hervey Bay, Toowoomba, Byron Bay, Ballina and Coffs Harbour. If you would like to take the vehicle further, please contact our reservation staff for details.
Q: Do I have to return the vehicle with a full tank of fuel?
A: We ask that you return the vehicle with the same level of fuel it was on when hired. If the vehicle is returned with a lower amount of fuel we will charge a service fee as well as the refueling cost.
Q: Will a travel insurance policy provide sufficient cover if I have an accident ?
A: We suggest you carefully read over the terms and conditions of your travel insurance policy prior to arrival to ensure you are fully aware of exactly what they cover and what is required of you as there are many exclusions under rental vehicle cover. If there is an accident you are liable to us for your chosen excess and you then need to liase with your insurance provider to make a claim.
Q: Do you hire baby seats and booster seats?
A: Yes we do. The charge is $5.00 per day, up to maximum of $30.00 per seat, per hire. We have a selection of rear & forward facing baby seats and low rider or high backed booster seats. Please ensure you prebook the seat with us and advise age/preferred seat at the time of booking.
Q: What is your cancellation policy?
A: We reserve the right to charge the following cancellation fee's:
7+ days notice = $35.00 administration fee
Less than 7 days notice = 1 days hire
Within 48 hours of hire = 2 days hire
Less than 24 hours notice = Full hire charges
Please note: Deposit's on the following vehicles are NOT refundable: Prestige/Convertibles/4WD's/8 & 12 Seaters
Q: Do I have to pay for road tolls?
A: Yes, the hirer is responsible for all road tolls . All Red Back vehicles are registered with the Queensland Motorways Toll Authority. Customers will need to advise us if they travel through a toll. We have a standard charge of $5.50 per toll. If you fail to advise that you travelled through tolls, we will charge the toll fee and a processing fee to your credit card. Q: Where are the road tolls in South East Queensland?
A: Gateway Motorway (Near Brisbane Airport), Logan Motorway (South Brisbane), Clem Jones Tunnel (Brisbane City)
